Lactation Consultant

Our lactation consultants offers compassionate support for families at every stage of their feeding journey. From prenatal preparation to newborn and infant feeding challenges, we provide personalized, gentle care to help you feel confident, supported, and informed as you nourish your baby.

Because feeding shouldn’t feel overwhelming.

Breastfeeding or bottlefeeding challenges are common, and you don’t have to navigate them alone. If feeding feels difficult, uncomfortable, or just not quite right, a lactation consultant can help. Latch concerns, pain, or uncertainty often don’t resolve on their own—and early support can make a meaningful difference.

At The Wellnest Family Clinic, our lactation consultants offer gentle, supportive care for families in King City, Vaughan, and across the York Region. We assess your baby’s latch, positioning, and feeding patterns, whether you’re experiencing challenges or simply want reassurance that things are on track. Even when feeding is going well, an assessment can help support comfort, confidence, and long-term success.

Our approach is calm, respectful, and family-centred—meeting you where you’re at and supporting both you and your baby as you grow together.

What Is a Lactation Consultant?

A lactation consultant is a healthcare professional who specializes in supporting infant feeding and breastfeeding. At The Wellnest Family Clinic, our lactation consultants are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs)—the highest recognized standard in lactation care.

IBCLCs complete extensive education in maternal and infant health, supervised clinical experience, and must pass a comprehensive board examination. This advanced training sets them apart from general or unregulated breastfeeding support.

While our lactation consultants provide hands-on feeding support, they also offer knowledgeable guidance tailored to you and your baby, helping families feel confident, informed, and supported throughout their feeding journey.

How a Lactation Consultant Can Help

Breastfeeding Support & Technique

Lactation consultants support all aspects of breastfeeding, including latch, positioning, milk transfer, and feeding comfort. Whether you’re experiencing pain, shallow latch, clicking, or long or frequent feeds, we help fine-tune technique so feeding feels more comfortable and effective for both you and your baby.

Bottle Feeding, Pumping & Combination Feeding

Whether you’re pumping, bottle feeding, or combining breast and bottle, we offer guidance on flange sizing, pumping routines, paced bottle feeding, and maintaining milk supply—supporting feeding in a way that works for your family.

Prenatal & Preventative Lactation Care

Lactation support isn’t only for challenges. Prenatal consultations and early assessments can help you prepare for feeding, build confidence, and address concerns before they arise—especially helpful for first-time parents or previous feeding difficulties.

Tongue Ties & Lip Ties

Oral restrictions such as tongue ties or lip ties can impact feeding, comfort, and milk transfer. Our lactation consultants assess oral function, identify signs of restriction, and support families before and after releases, working collaboratively with your healthcare team.

Milk Supply & Feeding Concerns

Support for low supply, oversupply, engorgement, blocked ducts, frequent feeding, slow weight gain, or feeding fatigue. We help identify contributing factors and create a plan that supports both baby’s needs and parental wellbeing.

Family-Centred, Collaborative Care

At The Wellnest Family Clinic, lactation care is integrated with our chiropractic, massage, and maternal-pediatric services, offering a supportive, whole-family approach to feeding and development.
